RECIPROCATING Prime minister Narendra Modi's call, leaders of SAARC nations vowed to collectively curb the spread of the deadly corona virus, which has already killed closed to 6000 people across the globule.
Addressing SAARC heads of state via video conference, Modi announced the setting up of a COVID-19 emergency find and pledged to put $10 millions in its pool. "The fund will be based on voluntary contributions and foreign secretaries through the embassy will be accessible to all the member states of SAARC ," he said. However, sources said other members states have also been asked to contribute according to their capacity.
The South Association for Regional Cooperation( SAARC ) has India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan as its members.
The PM proposed that experts from member states brainstorm on the medical and economic aspects of the pandemic. "We must identify nodal officers in each member state. They can meet next week to take this discussion forward," he said, adding India could help set up a Covid-19 website in all SAARC language.
Total Cases in India 107;452 airlifted
New Delhi: With the total Corona virus cases in India touching 107 on Sunday, one of the talking points of the day was the high drams at the Kochi airport where a UK national who had tested positive for virus, tried to board a Dubai flight. He was later deplaned and his wife and 17 others put under isolation.
Meanwhile, the Agra police lodged India's first FIR in connection with tested positive for Corona virus. He reportedly resisted a medical team's efforts to isolate his daughter.
